Members Pay For Gold’s Gym Not Yet Built
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. — About 1,000 people who paid for gym memberships
have nothing to show for it. Gold’s Gym was supposed to open in
Hendersonville last October, but five months later, it hasn’t.
A Gold’s Gym membership is about $20 a month.
“I thought, ‘Hey, a great opportunity. The gym is right outside my
apartment; this would be wonderful,'” said Ryan O’Saile.
In September of last year, O’Saile paid about $50. The gym, he was told,
would open in October.
“We’re still sitting here in March, and construction hasn’t begun yet.
Each time I went to the trailer, I’ve been given a different story about what
was going on,” said O’Saile. “I feel cheated. I feel wronged that they’re
taking this money from me.”
O’Saile isn’t alone, and Gold’s Gym General Manager Chris Cross said he
understands his members’ frustration.
We’ve signed up over 900 members,” said Cross. “We’re frustrated, too.
Nobody wants this gym open more than we do.”
In fact, Cross said, $1 million has been invested into the project,
including signs and construction materials. Cross said the gym’s bank is to blame
for the hold-ups.
“They delayed the funding, which caused us to be in a delay,” said Cross,
who said a gym is coming. “We are 100 percent going to open. We are in the
process. We are moving full-steam ahead.”
O’Saile won’t be there when the doors finally open. He has canceled his
membership, but said he was told enrollment and processing fees from account
setup were nonrefundable.
